Fall Handbags Preview
You may have noticed that we took a little hiatus from writing here. We had some technical issues but now that they’ve all been worked out, we’re back…and we’re ready to talk handbags once again. Specifically fall handbags. Afterall, it’s August and summer’s almost over. It’s time to start thinking about what you’ll be carrying this next season.
Fall handbags are hitting store shelves even as we write this. Some trends are being carried over from spring (studs, grommets, and other hardware), but most of the fall handbag trends are new.
One trend we’re particularly excited to see make a comeback is military influence. Whether you shop designer handbags or spendy but less trendy labels, you’re sure to see military inspired handbags in various shapes and colors. What makes a bag military style? Think camouflage, canvas, and tan and olive shades.
While completely opposite from military style, you’ll also find romantic handbags making a comeback. These are handbags with flowing style, floral embellishments, lace, swirls, and other details that are distinctly feminine and soft. For more ideas in this category, check out our romantic handbags post.
When it comes to shape, think small and think satchel. Satchels have always been hot but this season has brought out numerous new satchel styles – particularly the convertible satchel. Fall is also all about mini bags, especially on long chains. So ditch that oversized tote for a hot little crossbody mini bag.
Finally when it comes to fall handbags and color, look for deep reds and browns, golden yellows, and teal. Neutral shades are also hot. Don’t forget prints and exotic prints like python. You’ll see quite a few animal print handbags in fall collections.

Spring 2010 Handbag Trends – Brights & Neons
Designers introduced a very much needed bolt of color and positive energy across the Spring 2010 runways after such a somber Fall 2009. Yes, we are in a recession, yes world crisis has us desiring times when things seemed simpler, but we can’t forget to be grateful for today. What better way to celebrate promises of new things to come than with vivid color? For me, Proenza Schouler’s Spring 2010 scuba inspired looks like one below had me most optimistic of things to come.

Though I may not be able to sport the head to toe brights, I can add some shots of optimism to my life with the classic shape of the Kate Spade Tarrytown Maryanne Tote or the amazingly affordable Urban Expressions Scandicci Studded Clutch
Spring 2010 Handbag Trends – Rocker Chic
You know, normally, I am a fitted pencil skirt, secretary blouse type, but the Spring 2010 Balmain runways have me craving something else. The Balmain Spring 2010 runways portrayed an urban warrior goddess that has me completely obsessed. My favorite look of the runway is this one below with these second skin cargo pants, ripped tee, lace up combat boots, and trend forward jacket. I keep fantasizing walking into work with a version of this look, minus exposed skin and shredded tee, LOL, but then think about the reality of what a drastic change that would be from my pencil skirt/trouser uniforms.

So, to not alarm my co-workers of multiple personality disorders, any that they don’t know about already, LOL, I think I will incorporate Balmain’s urban warrior goddess into my life with this sumptuous Tylie Malibu Runway Cherie Studded Handbag.

Rocker Chic Handbags
What is rocker chic? It’s torn skinny jeans, biker boots, stilettos, vintage t-shirts, animal prints, belts and buckles, oversized necklaces, and thrift shop finds. It’s about expressing your own individuality with key rock fashion elements.
Rocker chic is also a trend in spring 2010 handbags. Rocker chic handbags are bags with studs, chains, exposed zippers, and other hardware. Many are patent leather or faux leather – especially black. Some also feature animal prints like snake or cheetah.
Rocker chic handbags are great not only with those torn skinny jeans, but also for nights out. That’s what is so great about rocker handbags. You basically get two bags in one – a day and a night bag.

Neon Handbags
“The best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you!” – Coco Chanel
Neon. It’s not usually what comes to mind when you think of handbags. Yet, neon handbags are making their way into spring collections.
Heather Hawkins, for instance, has several clutches and convertible handbags in bright, neon colors like neon green, neon pink, and neon yellow. The neon green Heather Hawkins San Tropez is my absolute favorite from the new collection. Chinese Laundry also has several bags right now in bright colors including the Piped Tote in bright pink. The colors are so bright you’ll think you stepped back into the 80s. All you need are legwarmers and a headband.
For neon handbags from designer labels, be sure to check out the L.A.M.B Ultraviolet Rhodes Lambskin Satchel. Available at Bloomingdales for under $300 now. Or for a cute overnighter, take a look at the Isaac Mizrahi Medium Dayglo Duffel Bag with Duster. I love the day-go pink color – makes me think of neopolitan ice cream.
Hot Handbags For Spring 2010
Want to know the hot handbags for spring 2010? Keep reading…
It may only be January, but it’s time to talk spring handbag trends. Stores are having massive sales to clear room for the new spring handbag collections that are arriving as I write this. So here is a peek at spring handbag trends from eBags’ handbags experts.
Bohemian: Boho style is making a comeback. Think fringe handbags, tie-dye bags, ethnic touches, tassels, slouchy hobos, and beading embellishment.
Cross-Body Bags: These never went out of style but now look for cross-body handbags with chain straps and smaller (mini) cross-body’s.
Hardware: Still in. A carry-over from fall, look for bags with studs, grommets, and exposed zippers.
Color: Spring handbag colors include your typical bright colors and pastels, but also look for neon colors and jewel-toned hues (purples, blues, and greens).
Texture: Bags with great textures are all the rage. Braided handles, woven leather, rouching detail, and pleating accents are just some of the handbag trends for the season.
A couple of other things to watch for in handbags for spring: raffia weave, small bags with long straps, and medium sized clutches.

Color Spotlight – Purple
Fall is all about rich hues – reds, blues, greens, browns, and especially purples. Purple handbags are truly hot – from deep amethysts to lovely violets – and they’re available in all styles – hobos, clutches, satchels, and totes.
One favorite for fall is the Lovcat Paris. It’s perfect if you don’t want something too big but want the luxurious look of patent. Features crystal enamel hardware keychain and signature Lovcat lining and comes with dustbag.
For a deeper purple handbag, take a look at the Kathy Van Zeeland Spin Cycle Satchel in dark amethyst. This bag’s dark hue will take you from fall to winter and the faux snakeskin is definitely trendy this season. Features include top zip closure, interior lining and pockets, 4 exterior pockets, and double handles.
For a truly sleek and stylish purple handbag, take a look at the Roxy Sweet and Sour Bag. At $38.00, it’s truly affordable fashion.
Florals for Fall
While spring might come to mind first when you think of flowers, floral dresses are actually very trendy for fall. And the bags that go perfectly with flower-covered frocks are clutches. So here are some great pairings from Polyvore and eBags.
