Designer Blog: A Modern Day Cinderella Story
| In today’s world where women pride themselves on a feminist society, I would rather believe in a philosophy I was taught at a very young age. Hard work and a dream equals a fairytale ending. After all, isn’t it just a nicer way to get to the top?
At the end of July, I exhibited at The Collections at WSA in Las Vegas where they present Glass Slipper Awards to the best exhibitors. I slaved for months preparing for the show and it seemed like obstacles were popping up on a daily basis trying to hold me back from getting to the “ball”. The freight driver missed the pickup deadline. My displays didn’t get to the hotel on time for the tradeshow set-up. I spent nearly a week handcrafting 400 origami birds to parallel the artistic nature of my designs and the serene mood of the SS09 collection. And when I arrived, we were told we couldn’t hang anything from the ceilings. At that point, I wasn’t feeling so serene. And neither was my suitemate, Jenny Bird who was experiencing just as many difficulties. Still managing to stay dry-eyed, we kept our heads held high and solved problem after problem, working all hours of the night to turn the suite into a piece of art. Two days later, we attended the award presentation and sure enough, we felt like a modern day Cinderella when we were presented with the precious Glass Slipper Award! |

Designer Blog: The Little Things
In life I appreciate the little things, those that often go unnoticed. So it only makes sense that I do the same in my design. Why must a bag be loud in order to be praised…I say that it doesn’t need to be. Quiet statements can attract equal attention and further admiration.
Perhaps bags are like women? Some women quickly grab attention by parading their extroverted personality across a room, turning heads from every direction. While others are more delicate and quielty confident? These are the women, whom I have grown to know make the best life-long friends and partners
While the latest ‘it’ bag, covered in bold hardware may send you drooling for weeks on end, it will also end up at the bottom of your closet in years to come, perhaps even months. You may even find yourself asking why you ever wore such a thing

It is as loyal to you as you are to it and you realize….the little things in life - the simple things - are also the things that stay with you forever.
