Getting to Know Rebecca Minkoff
|
Every magazine that I open is talking about Rebecca Minkoff. If you have not had a chance to look at her handbags, here it is! I’m going to introduce you to the designer and show you some of her new product. Bio(www.rebeccaminkoff.com): Born in San Diego, California, Rebecca’s first love was the art of design and began sewing at the age of 8. Although Rebecca’s handbags have been a hit among the stars and women all around the world, she began designing clothing at the age of 18. She launched her clothing line in 2001, but it wasn’t until her good friend and actress Jenna Elfman asked her to design a handbag for her next movie that the ‘Morning After’ bag was born. |

Handbag Exhibit Confirms that Handbags are a lot More than they Seem
I found this article and had to share it with you. In the midst of craziness that comes during this time of year in the fashion industry, I found this article to be refreshing. Of course, like always, I share all of my handbag insights with all of you. There is a handbag exhibit that is called, “Pocketbook Anthropology: A Treasure of Handbags,” and examines the significance of purses. Now, I’m sure you all know by now that being a “handbag expert” Erin and I like to use the word handbag, but we’ll put that aside for now. What was so interesting to me about this exhibit was the vast amount of handbags that were brought in and the differences in them. Everything from homemade handbags to art pieces. To so many people handbags are just seen as material objects, but you also have to remember that there are just as many that actually have a connection with their handbag. Women carry them everyday, take them everywhere and put their most personal pocessions in them. Handbags help to describe who a person is and what kind of style they have. Not everyone may see that in a handbag, but there are many that do. The next time you are sitting at a coffee shop people watching take a look at the handbags that come into that store and the people carrying them. You just may turn into handbag fanatics like us!
and of course, thanks to (www.journalnow.com; August 14th, 2008) for my inspiration!
Designer Watch:Camila Alves and Mother Promote Muxo Handbags
| I just looked at the new collection of handbags from model/designer Camila Alves and her mother. What do I think? I love them! I think that they are very fashion forward leather designs, but they definately do not come cheap. You will be spending anywhere from $700 to $1,000 on a Muxo Handbag. It will definately be interesting to see if these handbags catch on; I think they will be big with celebrities(women and men), but not too sure if it will catch on to the mainstream crowd. Check a few out and decide for yourself: | |

The Perfect Tote for Last Minute Beach Vacations
|
I love going to the beach, but I hate when I walk away with sand on everything that I own. It’s not easy to find a bag that can resist not only sand and water, but also sun. While I was reading Vogue I found the perfect answer to my beach bag problem. They suggest a tote by Lisa Perry that is transparent with a hint of bright color. This tote will not only have you turning heads, but will also keep all of your necessities away from sun, sand and water! Although transparent handbags was a trend that didn’t have many people on-board, totes is another story. What’s great about having a beach tote that you can see through is that you can tell your essentials apart from one another. No more reaching for the ipod instead of the cell phone, or the bug spray instead of the sun lotion. You can see everything! |

$$$Making Your Dollar Go Farther$$$
In hard economic times, everybody is looking for new ways to re-use items and to save money on the items that they need to buy. I’m not sure why it’s taken everyone so long to jump on the bandwagon; I’ve been looking for vintage and used handbags for a long time now! Maybe it’s just because I’ve been on quite a budget these days. Although I blog about bags that cost hundreds of dollars, the reality is that not everybody can afford them. Erin and I always give you sales and deals updates, so keep looking for those(you can save a lot of money on designer bags just by watching out for sales). You can also keep your eye out for great deals at unusual places. Don’t only look at the local mall for great deals on brand name handbags, there are a few other places that I’ve found can save you a lot of money! Keep in mind that you probably won’t find something on your first visit; try checking these places out once a week and you will come across some good finds. Find your local thrift store(some are definitely better than others). Keep in mind the area that you are in and what kind of people will donate to what stores. I’ve found designer handbags at thrift stores for only a few dollars. People are starting to catch onto the trend and will price the designer bags a lot higher than a few dollars, but you are still saving money. The other place to look is garage sales! A few weekends ago I found a house that had dozens of handbags, totes and wallets laid out on the ground with a sign saying “$2.00 for everything.” Just be versatile and creative; it’s the only way to save yourself some money right now. Who knows, maybe it’s something that you will catch on to and start doing all the time. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have a few really nice handbags, but keep in mind that there are tons of great deals out there on slightly used merchandise!
