Black & White Handbags – Always In Style
With the recession on everyone’s mind, I think every stylish woman wants to know how to stretch last year’s fall wardrobe. Wouldn’t you agree ladies? But, the truly stylish stand out from crowd not from the new duds they sport but the way they put it all together in a new way. One of my favorite fall trends that will easily refresh last years staples is metal hardware on handbags. Check out one of my favorite new bags, The MICHAEL Michael Kors Uptown Astor Satchel in black and white. First off, it’s a color palette that will never go out, secondly, the metal stud/grommet trend is balanced with a classic satchel shape. I can see myself wearing this with jeans, crisp white button down and red flats or a sleek pencil skirt & loafer pumps. So versatile!

Fashion-forward moms (and dads) know that diaper bags aren’t all pink or blue with little flowers, bows and frilly things. Today’s diaper bags are as trendy if not more stylish than handbags. Neutrals From Steve Madden
While the biggest trends for fall are red handbags and handbags with studs, grommets, and other hardware, there is also talk that neutral colors are also popular. Whether or not this is true, it is a fact that neutral colored bags are perfect year round because they never go out of style and they work with practically every outfit.
One brand who is offering some beautiful shapes in neutral is Steve Madden. While you know the brand for shoes, Steve Madden handbags are not to be overlooked. From clutches to hobos to zip tops, Steve Madden offers a variety of styles, materials, and colors to choose from priced anywhere from just above $50 to right around $200.
One of my favorites right now is the Steve Madden BFrench in nude. This leather bag comes in a lovely light brown color as well as black. It features several interior pockets including a center dividing zip pocket, small detailing such as studs on the front and tassles, and double handles. At $258, it’s a splurge but still a great value considering its great shape and beautiful styling.

Sexy Laptop Sleeves – Stand Out From the Sea of Black
Just because you have a laptop with you doesn’t mean you have to carry a drab laptop bag. In fact, if you’ve got a women’s briefcase or tote that you love, you can carry your laptop inside that. Just be sure that if the bag isn’t designed to hold a computer, you protect it with a laptop sleeve.
Laptop sleeves are cases (often padded) that fit snugly around your laptop to protect it. You can find laptop sleeves in just about any style and color, but again, there’s no reason to get a boring black sleeve just because the computer is being stashed away in another bag. Afterall, wouldn’t you look that much more fashionable pulling out your italian leather covered laptop from your designer tote? So snag one of these sexy laptop sleeves to complete your chic look.

Complete Your Red Carpet Look With A Great Evening Bag
It doesn’t matter if it’s the Emmy’s or the Oscars, when there’s a red carpet involved, the fashion scene buzzes with commentary and bursts with photos. Everyone seems to scramble to get the first Best Dressed and Worst Dressed galleries live on the internet and everyone is quick to get their opinions heard. While every year there are ensembles that people cannot agree on, there are other outfits that are clear winners and losers.
This year’s Emmy’s were no exception to the scenario I just described. Chock full of clear winners and losers, there are literally tons of sites out there with their Emmy red carpet pictures all ready for you peruse. You’ll see lots of red and white this year. Some feathery and frilly numbers. And then inevitably you’ll see the dresses that either make their wearers look like they’re swimming in fabric or look like they’re wearing a sack. Not to mention the few pictures that will make you scratch your head and say, “What were they thinking?”
One thing you may not pay attention to in all these pictures is the accessories. Sure, the hair and the dress take up quite a bit of the picture, but let’s not forget that accessories can sometimes make or break an outfit. Pick an evening bag that overshadows your dress and you’re taking a huge risk. Spend a lot on a bag that perfectly matches and you probably overpaid for something no one will notice.
Want to create your own red carpet look? Being daring is admirable but only if you can pull it off. Otherwise, you have a dud of a dress on your hands. For a sure-thing, stick with styles that flatter your body type. For instance if you have broad shoulders, avoid square necks. And never forget the accessories. Shoes, jewelry, and evening bags.

An Ode To MJ
Don’t worry, I haven’t taken a lesson from Jermaine Jackson, and I am not racketeering some attention for myself using the death of the late great Michael Jackson, but am referring to the other great MJ. You know the handsome gay one, whose talent and skill are more profound than any other designer, and whose handbags will leave your wallet a little bare. Ah, yes that’s the one… Marc Jacobs. It’s no surprise that Marc had an exceptionally successful preview during fashion week and being that he is my absolute “FAVE” designer I had to pay tribute to his one of a kind designs and give all of you handbag connoisseurs the chance to take a peak at these beauties. Oh and if you end up falling in love with MJ as much as I am, but don’t want your wallet to lose any weight, than please continue to read on and check out the runway to real life bags that I’ve pulled.
Call me crazy, but I look at these bags and feel like singing some good ol’ Etta James. If love came in the form of a handbag this would be it! The color story for the entire collection is very soft-muted pastels with some great fashion reds, blues and metallics. The feel of the line is much less rock ‘n roll than previous seasons and I like it! I love me some studs and rock ‘n roll hardware, but this soft feminine change with great textures is blowing my mind. Mixed media such as soft metallics and vachetta leather trim with chain hardware is just superb. Or how about the different textures! Hints of snakeskin can be found in the lattice leather. I love when designers play up their bags not by adding too much hardware, but by playing with the natural quality of the leather and pliability of it. Ruched leather, lattice leathers, and quilted leathers are just a few of the ways Marc managed to create this one of a kind spring 2010 line. Oh and I almost forgot- fringe! I was beginning to get over the whole fringe trend, in fact, I was editing it out of a certain designer’s line, I guess I’ll be rethinking that strategy. The fringe here is fabulous and gives great body and movement to each of the bags. My favorite bag – the over the shoulder fringed lattice leather hobo; to die for. I guess I better start saving my pennies now, but for those of you who want a more instant form of gratification check out these below bags and why we find them so close to the runway look. Get ahead of the game and get your spring 2010 bag now and for a great price!
M Missoni Jazz Large Shoulder Bag Canvas – color palette and texture
The fabulous blues, crèmes, champagnes, and whites that Marc presented on the runway are a definite color palette to carry for spring and our simple fix is the M Missoni Jazz Large Shoulder Bag Canvas. No, it’s not leather, but it’s still fabulous and the color combinations are simply amazing, I especially love the light blue that is worked in. Also, an important key to Marc’s line was texture! Your spring bag doesn’t need to be lattice leather in order to be on trend, it just needs the proper texture and this wonderful canvas will do just the trick.
Betsey Johnson Whips and Studs E/W Tote - color palette, tassels, quilting, and leather and chain woven shoulder strap
This sexy, sophisticated, and glitzy bag is definitely a must have for spring. Notice the use of leather woven in with the chain handle, the soft grey colors, and the tassels- they just scream MJ! I absolutely love the hint of quilting around the bottom of the bag. And of course, very Betsy Johnson-esque, the bag includes hints of rock ‘n roll with the studding, just incase you’re not all that ready yet to walk away from this fabulous trend.
MICHAEL Michael Kors Astor Grommet Large N/S Tote – color palette, grommets, and tassels
This MICHAEL bag is very reminiscent of the grommet-covered bags that Marc presented on Monday. I have to say that in this instance less is more; less grommets gives a more classic look. So if you love the grommet-covered bags that were presented this fashion week then you’ll die for this bag. The cognac color-way is absolutely beautiful and fits right in with the MJ woven leather half flap. And of course tassels! Again I say, less is more, and I think this MICHAEL bag combines the perfect about of grommets and tassels. Love this bag!
Hardware Is Hot On Fall Handbags
One hot trend for fall are handbags with a lot of hardware. Grommets, studs, buckles, and other metal. It doesn’t matter if it’s gold or silver toned, it’s all about bling and embellishment this season.
Hardware is what takes an average handbag and makes it into a must-have. And no matter what your budget is, there’s something out there for you from wallet-friendly bags under $100 to showstoppers from top designers.
